Akpeyi Gutted Over Mahrez Free-kick Goal

Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, says it’s difficult to swallow the team’s defeat to Algeria in the semi-final of the 2019 African Cup of Nations to Algeria.

The Gernot Rohr’men succumbed to Riyad Mahrez 94th minutes free-kick , after Ighalo had cancelled out Troost Ekong’s own goal.

Akpeyi has come under heavy criticisms on his position , before Mahrez curled in the free-kick, and the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper admitted he’s sad to be beaten from the angle.

”It is very tough, it is very sad that we have to lose in such a manner and I was beaten by that kind of free-kick, it’s something that I wish I can replay but it is over now.”

Akpeyi, however, added that the team should be praised for its efforts and not blacklash from the fans.

”It doesn’t matter whatever anyone will say about the team, these players have actually tried, a lot of teams have been knocked out of the tournament but the Nigeria team is still here.

”We have young talents so I am very sure if this team can be given a chance we’ll be able to fix things together. So far we have done well,” he concluded.

Nigeria will face Tunisia in losers final on Wednesday.
