The Lagos State Police Command has arrested another suspected fake lawyer, Uche Nwachukwu arguing a bail application of suspect at the Ojo Magistrate Court in the state.
Suspected fake lawyerThis was the second time a fake lawyer was being arrested at the same Magistrate Court this year.
The first was the arrest of one Elisha, who was picked on February 16, after being in the illegal practice for 15 years. Meanwhile, Nwachukwu has confessed that he has been on the illegal law practices since 2015.
According to the suspect, he fell in love with law practice when a friend of his, commissioned him to act as a lawyer in order to serve his tenant a quit notice. He said that he was handsomely rewarded after the deed and since then, the devil sold the idea of faking a lawyer in his heart.
However, luck ran out on Nwachukwu last week, while he was arguing a bail application for his client when some lawyers in the court suspected that he may not be a lawyer as goofed during an argument.
A lawyer notified the police that the suspect’s quackery was too obvious to be ignored and he was arrested.
Police public relations officer to the Command, SP. Chike Oti said:”The police investigation into the case thus far, revealed that the suspect did not study law in any of the Nigerian universities nor anywhere else in the world. He has been charged to Ojo Magistrate Court on May 30, for the offense of impersonation.
“In view of this incident, the commissioner of Police, Lagos state police command has reiterated his warning to professional bodies to properly scrutinize people professing to be members of their bodies. According to the CP, this is one incident too many and must be checked. The CP noted that the Command had in the recent months, arrested fake medical doctors and other spurious health workers including fake journalists”.
