Bello clarifies Nigeria’s Table Tennis situation regarding Tokyo 2020

National table tennis coach Nosir Bello has clarified Nigeria’s current situation amidst confusion in some sections of the media that Nigeria has crashed out of the table tennis event for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Bello speaking in a chat with brila.net upon arrival from Gondomar Portugal that Nigeria is still on for possible qualification for the Olympics stressing that the ouster of Nigeria from the Olympics in table tennis is in the team table tennis event which is one of the three categories of table tennis that will be played at the Olympics and that Nigeria is still very much on in the singles and mixed doubles events.
“The team event that was just played which makes Nigeria to crash out is mainly for the team event. We have three qualification stages and 1 is the team event, 2 is the single event and 3 is the mixed double event.
“Those are the events that they will play at Tokyo 2020. Now we’ve lost team, we still have singles and mixed double to be played in Tunisia from 25th of February to the 29th of February. We are not yet out, we are still on with singles event and also with mixed double event.”
