On Sunday the Confederation of African Football announced the shortlists of nominees for the 2019 CAF Awards, including the categories African Player of the Year; Men and Women as well as the National Team of the year.
Nigeria featured prominently in all the major categories but the Interclubs player of the year, where no NPFL player was named.
In the top awards Men and Women’s POTY, Six Nigerians were nominated including top scorer at the 2019 AFCON, Odion Ighalo.
Asisat Oshoala, who became the first African to play in the UWCL final and score, was nominated for the Women’s POTY award for the sixth consecutive year.

Young sensation Victor Osimhen was named in two categories while the Super Eagles and Super Falcons will vie for the honor in their respective categories for National team of the Year.
Former Falcons Head Coach Thomas Dennerby was nominated for Women’s Coach of the Year as was Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr in the Men’s category.
