Commonwealth Gold-medalist excited with World Number 4 ranking

2018 Commonwealth Games champion and current female world number 4 in the 68kg class in the October ranking, Nigeria female wrestler, Blessing Oborududu has expressed her happiness following her rise in the world ranking released by the United World Wrestling and has stated that it’s the effect of her performance in the 2019 tournaments.

“ This is the first time I’m ranked in the top 4 in the world, I’m really thankful to God and it’s thanks to my performance in the tournamnets this year”.

 

The Reigning African Games gold medalists who failed to win a medal at the 2019 world wrestling championship in Kazakhstan also missing out on an Olympic ticket which left her disappointed, is optimistic of her chance to secure a ticket for Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the next qualifiers in Morocco, March 2020.

 

In a chat with brila.net Blessing said she is working to eliminate distractions and correct the errors that cost her to perform below par at the World championship.

 

“My plan was to qualify for the Olympics and win a medal from the world championship but all hope is not lost the experience was good, I’m training ahead of the other qualifiers also working on the things that affected my performance at the world championship also looking forwards to the ranking series next year.”

 

The Free-style Wrestling champion also made an appeal to the government to assist the Nigeria Wrestling Federation to get adequate preparation and good training camps before the Olympics.

 

Nine-time African champion, Oborududu is fourth with 48points, behind top-rated Swede, Anna Fransson (56pts) in Number 1, Alla Cherkasova (52pts) of Ukraine and Battsetseg Soronzonbold (51points) of Mongolia in Number 2 and 3 respectively.
