Conte Won’t Blame Moses For Spurs Equaliser, Rues Missed Top Four Chance

Antonio Conte has insisted that Victor Moses cannot be blamed for Tottenham Hotspur’s equaliser late in the first half of their 3-1 Premier League defeat to their London rivals at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

After providing the cross which was converted by Alvaro Morata which put Chelsea 1-0 up, Moses lost possession close to his 18-yard box which Christian Eriksen capitalised on and fired in a stunning long-range shot to make it 1-1.

Two more goals from Dele Alli in the second half saw Spurs secure their first league win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge since 1990.

Reacting to Moses’ mistake, Conte posited that every Chelsea player must take responsibility.

“I was a footballer, it can happen where you lose the ball,” Conte said in his post-match interview.

“It’s not the time to put responsibility on a player. We must be in this situation together.

“The goal at the end of the first half it wasn’t good for us and our confidence. We deserved to go in 2-0 up but football is this and Eriksen scored a fantastic goal.

“Second half we tried to score again but Tottenham have been more clinical than us. In this season we are not so clinical and then we lost the game.”

The former Juventus manager went on to lament his side’s inability to close the gap on Spurs in the race for top four.

“For sure we lost a great chance today to reduce the gap with Tottenham,” he said. “There are seven games to go and we have to do our best until the end. At the end of the season you finish in the position you deserve.

“To fight for the title is not simple especially in England. Last season we won and maybe we can do better to re-enforce the team.

“Don’t forget two years ago this club finished 10th. We are trying to do our best to give satisfaction to our fans but sometimes it is very difficult to do this.”
