It was joy all through for the widows of fallen Police officers, Rivers State Police Command, Port -Harcourt, as the state commissioners of police, Mr. Tunni Disu showered them with gifts on Valentine’s day.
The CP also expressed the readiness of the command to honour the widows regularly, considering the roles their late husbands played in the fight for a better Rivers State while alive.
He stated this during a special event organized by the command leadership to honour and celebrate the wives of the late Police Officers (LAPOWA) as part of the Valentine’s Day Celebration, stressing that the widows represented the interest of the police in taking care of the children left behind by their late husbands .
Disu said,”today we are here to celebrate the departed ones and to express our love and gratitude to their wives and families . Look at here, over 200 women, but where are your husbands? They died fighting for the peace and unity of the State. They died in the line of duty.
“We remember you today; to show you love and to pray to Almighty God to remember them because they died fighting for the nation. We remember you always, you are the ones taking care of the children and you have shamed our detractors, who said that Police children can not be better ,our children are doing well. I thank you all for living upto expectations.My management team and I have instructed our DPOs to always support and give you the needed protections where ever you are. For the sake of encouraging them in ensuring that those that late officers left behind feel loved”, he stated.
Disu averred that the event was an initiative of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun ,who directed that the late Police Officers Wives should be carried along. This really informed the decision to celebrate with them today.
The leader of LAPOWA, Josephine Alukabu,in an emotion laden words,said,” this is the first of its kind where widows are celebrated and remembered for Good”.
As one of the beneficiaries,she expressed gratitude to the CP,and added that the gesture had impacted greatly on the association,and prayed that God would keep the police boss and his men for greater achievement.
