Daniel Akpeyi’s Kaizer Chiefs days number after this

Three months into his Kaizer Chiefs career and Daniel Akpeyi may have found himself in a battle for relevance or face been relegated to second choice to a 23 year-old.

Akpeyi who joined Amakhosi from Chippa United, was brought in to fill in the shoes of injured first choice goalie Itumeleng Khune.

However, three games in and it appears the 32 year-old has lost his pace to South African rising star, Bruce Bvuma.

Bvuma has in recent games emerged first choice option for Kaizer Chief Boss Ernst Middendorp and the youngster has impressed.

His record after three games; same as Akpeyi’s, have endeared him more to the Chiefs faithfuls.

Bvuma has kept two clean sheets in two high profile games; conceding just once in.

On the other hand, Akpeyi shipped in four goals in three matches, although like Bvuma he has also not tasted defeat between the sticks for the club.

Meanwhile, Kaizer have progressed to the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup where they next face Chippa United.

And if he returns between the sticks, it’ll be Akpeyi’s first game against his former side.
