Dark Times For Iheanacho as His Jersey At Leicester Is Taken Over

Kelechi Iheanacho’s future at Leicester may be nearing its end after his jersey number was given to Belgium star, Youri Tielemans while the Nigerian takes up the number 14 jersey.

The 22-year-old’s future at the King Power Stadium has been called into questioning after a series of unimpressive performance since he signed in 2017.

The former Manchester City star, who was left out of Super Eagles squad for the Nations Cup, has managed just four goals in 51 appearances for the Foxes which led to reports that he may be sold this summer.

However, the U-17 World Cup winner has impressed for the club during the preseason, scoring three goals so far.

Iheanacho’s form led to reports that Rodgers is set to give him another opportunity. But with the latest decision to take his jersey number, doubts have aroused once again on his future at the club.

Leicester on their official website that Iheanacho’s jersey along with two other players have been given to other players.

A statement on Leicester City’s website read: “There are a number of changes from last season, as Kelechi Iheanacho takes the No.14 shirt he has worn regularly for Nigeria, allowing summer signing Youri Tielemans to take No.8, a number he has worn regularly for Belgium.

“The No.21 shirt, worn by Tielemans whilst on loan from AS Monaco last season, is taken by Ricardo Pereira, who regains a jersey he has worn for Portugal, FC Porto and OGC Nice during his career, while Ayoze Pérez takes the No.17 shirt he wore at Newcastle United, from whom he joined this summer.

“James Justin, who arrived from Luton Town in June, takes No.2 following the departure of Danny Simpson, while Hamza Choudhury has switched to No.20 and Eldin Jakupović to No.35.”

We’ll have to wait and see what happens to our Nigerian brother as time goes by.
