David Luiz backs Maurizio Sarri despite Arsenal defeat

DAVID LUIZ has thrown his support behind under-pressure former SSC Napoli and Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri.

The Blues boss came into criticism after Saturday’s 2-0 loss against Arsenal.

Chelsea were poor throughout as goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny earned the Gunners the win.

Sarri started with his usual 4-3-3 formation, with Eden Hazard leading the line up front.

But Hazard was ineffective through the middle away from his usual wide position and Chelsea struggled to create any real chances.

Their first shot on target came with ten minutes of the game remaining.

Sarri left Olivier Giroud on the bench against his former team, as Chelsea prepare to welcome Gonzalo Higuain this week.

Despite the loss, Sarri refused to change his formation, and admitted after the game that he was unwilling to teach his players any different tactical approaches.

However, defender Luiz remained positive, insisting that the whole squad is behind the manager.

“He was not happy, but nobody was happy, so it was normal,” Luiz said.

“It is our style, it is our philosophy, I think if you asked at the beginning of the season can Chelsea keep the ball you would have said no.

“And now we are able to do that, like the best teams in the world, but then we have to improve our last 25 metres.

“It is part of the process, when you try to do something and this is inside your mind, if you believe in it you can arrive there.
