Delta Assembly wants Oborevwori to curtail herders/farmers' clashes

Delta State of Assembly on Tuesday, adopted a resolution calling on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to prevail on security operatives to curtail the incessant invasion of farmlands and attacks on farmers by suspected herdsmen in communities across the state.
The resolution is coming on the heels of renewed waves of attacks on residents which left one person dead and others injured in Uwheru, Ughelli North Local Government Area on Monday.
Expressing worries over the recurring incident, the House, during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, urged security agencies to rise up to the occasion.
Moving the motion under matters of urgent public importance, the member representing Ughelli North II Constituency, Mr. Spencer Owhofa urged the state Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to investigate and bring to book, the herdsmen who perpetrated the dastardly act which was said to have occurred at Emuede Lake in Uwheru during the annual fishing festival of the community.
He stressed the need for security agents to “ensure that the continuous killings, rape and harassment of the people of Uwheru, Ohoro, Agadama communities and environs by the herdsmen which occurs annually is stopped.”
Owhofa said it was imperative for security measures to be put in place to include a joint operation with the police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps and undertake routine day and night patrol within the communities and environs in order to forestall re-occurrence.
He also urged the security operatives to ensure that peace and order is restored in the community and environs.
The motion which was seconded by the member representing Ughelli North I, Mr. Matthew Omonade, was unanimously adopted by the lawmakers.
The Speaker, Guwor, thereafter directed the Acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Otto Aghoghophia to convey the House’ resolution to Governor Oborevwori for immediate implementation.
