Dennis Bonaventure Joins Amochachi In Club Brugge’s History Books!

Nigeria U23 attacker, Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis says he is very proud to be a part of history after he helped his side Club Brugge KV beat Belgium giants R.S.C. Anderlecht 3-2 on Thursday night at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium in Brussels.

Dennis scored the second goal for Brugge in the 34th minute of the game after lashing on to a through ball from Hans Vanaken. He later made way in the second half for Nigerian-born Dutch international, Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld who scored the third goal of the game which proved to be the winner of the tie.

Although it took almost 21 years, Dennis says it was worth the wait after he and his teammates finally managed to beat Anderlecht. Following the game, he revealed that they were going to party like it was 1998 because they have had to wait for 30 attempts in 21 seasons.

‘We finally did it after 21 years. I dedicate my goal to my mum and dad. And I give the victory to Almighty God.’

Club Brugge was where it all started for former Nigeria international, Daniel Amokachi. He scored 42 goals for the side between 1990 and 1994.

And Bonaventure who helped the Blue-Black break their Anderlecht jinx by scoring his sixth league goal of the campaign is already dreaming of UEFA Champions League football.

Club Brugge’s win means they are just one point adrift of the Jupiler League leaders Genk and Anderlecht are suddenly fifth, occupying a non-European place on the standings.

‘A massive result for us,’ said Dennis. ‘We can dream about Europe at this rate, we must keep pushing, the title and Champions League are our targets.’
