Discovery Sports Management, in Partnership with Sportlicitors hosts a Masterclass Series on the Sports Practice in Lagos, Nigeria

There has never been a time like this in history where sports needed the law for participants to actualize their true potential. According to the World Sports Encyclopaedia (2003), there are 8,000 indigenous sports and sporting games. There cannot be these many sports without a need for regulation and the practice of sports law.

Sports law practice is gaining prominence in Nigeria and across the world in general. Thus, there is a need for adequate preparation of interested individuals for this burgeoning area.

Discovery Sports, in partnership with Sportlicitors has, over the years, provided services to clients in the sports industry and now is taking it a step further to facilitate the growth of knowledge of this practice among legal practitioners, sports professionals and sports bodies in the industry.

Discovery Sports Limited (“Discovery Sports”) is an Africa-based company incorporated under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, providing sports management services to athletes and sports clubs. On the other hand, Sportlicitors Law Firm (“Sportlicitors”) is a sports law firm specialized in providing a variety of legal services to athletes, clubs, and governing bodies in the sports industry.

Though it is a legitimate and globally recognized arm of law practice, many legal professionals and people, generally, have little or no knowledge and experience on sports law. Many in the law industry are not aware of the know-how of legal representation before sporting committees, tribunals and authorities.

To solve this problem, Discovery Sports and Sportlicitors have scheduled a Masterclass on the Sports Law Practice for the 12th March. 2020. This Masterclass will focus on introducing the Sports Practice in Nigeria (“The Law and Business of Sports”), the procedural guidelines on International Sports Arbitration before bodies such as FIFA & the Court of Arbitration for Sports, World Anti-doping Agency and Anti-doping, International Basketball Federation, Intellectual Property Management in Sports, Sports Marketing and Merchandising, etc.

The resource personnel for this Masterclass will bring a wealth of theoretical knowledge and practical experience from various parts of the world including Africa, Europe and South America. Some of the speakers for this event include Kevin Omujine (Sporthouse Solicitors), Tosin Akinyemi (Sportlicitors), Shane Wafer (Javelin Sports Group, South Africa), Rodrigo Iglesias (IBN Sports & Entertainment, Brazil), Juliana Carmona (IBN Sports & Entertainment, Spain), Nta Ekpiken (The New Practice), etc.
