D’Tigress targets strong starts to take advantage of competition format – Ahmedu

Assistant coach of Nigeria’s women national basketball team Peter Ahmedu has stated that they intend to ensure a strong start to their FIBA Afrobasket title defence for the sake of a smoother experience due to the new format of the competition that rewards group winners an automatic berth in the quarter-final stage while second or third-placed team still had to go through a qualifying round to earn the right to play in the quarter-final.

Ahmedu speaking in a chat with Cornerstonenewsng.comsaid the coaching crew wants to take full advantage of the competition format which will also provide more rest time and lesser number of games with a strong group finishing than a slow start.
He also added that they want to ensure that the team is well equipped to keep hold of the title wok two years ago in Mali.
“We’re going to do as much as possible to really top that group to play lesser number of games as that will be the most important thing because the lesser you play, the more time you have to train to get into the system of whatever you want to play and that’s what we are trying to going into the tournament.”
