The Police said that the suspect also sold the drugs to unauthorised persons.

The suspect was arrested while trying to flee the country when he realized that he was being trailed by the police.

It was gathered that the suspect was recently caught on camera while selling the restricted drugs to the BBC reporter, Adejuwon Soyinka aka Mr. Nohnson.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who paraded the suspect before newsmen yesterday at the Command Headquarters said that police started their investigation on the suspect on May 1, 2018, after Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, reported a case of unlawful distribution of the controlled drug.

Edgal said that the company alleged that while in the employment of Emzor, the suspect had access to limited quantities of Emzolyn with Codeine for purpose of distribution to licensed retail pharmacies under his assigned beat.

He said that due to greed for money, the suspect supplied the controlled drugs to persons who were not supposed to have access to them in the first place contrary to the dictates of the laws of Nigeria.

He said that the suspect who was on the run since May 2018 was eventually arrested by operatives of the Command, attached to Area D Police Headquarters, at Idi Iroko Border town in Ogun State while trying to escape to Cotonou, Benin Republic.

He said: “In his statement, he claimed that he was only trying to meet his sales target and that the BBC reporter was introduced to him by one Pascal as a genuine businessman but that he did not bother to the verify the man’s identity. He regretted selling the controlled drug to unauthorised persons”.
