Oghenekaro Etebo and his Getafe teammates won’t be traveling to honour their UEFA Europa league game against Inter Milan on Thursday, the Club’s president confirms.
This is coming as the results of the coronavirus outbreak in Italy, with Milan the biggest City that have been affected.
Italy have the highest casualties in Europe, with over nine thousand reported cases and with the death risen to over three hundred.
This has led to the suspension of the Italian Serie A and other sporting activities in the country by the Italian sport minister on Monday.
However Getafe president Angel Torres has now confirmed that his team are likely to honor the game against the Nearazurri, saying unless UEFA agreed to their demand of another venue.
“Unless it changes a lot before the morning, Getafe will not travel to Milan,” Torres told El Transistor.
“We have asked UEFA to look for an alternative venue to for the Milan game,” he said.
“We don’t want to go into the middle of the coronavirus, we don’t need to. We have asked for help too from the Spanish federation to demand that the game be suspended.”
“If we lose the tie, then we lose the tie,” he continued. “I won’t be the one to assume any sort of risk. We were really hopeful about this game but if it has to be like this, then that’s the way it is.” He said.
Meanwhile all sporting events have been sustained in Italy until April 3rd in an effort to stop the spread of the disease.
