Evelyn Akhator reveals how she left football and Athletics for Basketball

Nigeria basketball star Evelyn Akhator has opened up on her journey into the slam and dunking game which has taken her around the world.

Akhator is one of the most gifted players in the current D’tigress squad and was part of the team that reached the last eight of FIBA world cup in Tenerife, Spain back in 2018.

 

Akhator who currently plays as a forward for Flammes Carolo Power Forward shared her experience with the fans during Instagram Live interview with www.brila.net.

 

The two-time Afro-basket winner disclosed that she played football and participated in athletics before finally settling for Basketball.

 

“I played football (street football), and I ran track when I was in school as well and didn’t know the sports to do, until my neighbor asked me to play basketball.

 

” I didn’t really think about me being a woman that am not going to do sports,  I know, I was good as something, but I just don’t know which of it.”

 

“And when I tried basketball ball and I just kind of fell in love with it and the transition was easy as well.” She told www.brila.net.

 

Evelyn Akhator has since grown into one of Nigeria’s finest player and has played in United States, Russia, Turkey, Spain, and now France.

 

Meanwhile the Edo State-born forward is currently in Nigeria due to the Pandemic.
