Every player has a chance, says Coach Dennerby

Thomas Dennerby says he is offering home-based players the chance to fight for a spot in Nigeria’s provisional list for the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France.

The Swede is expected to submit his provisional squad in April and has called up 30 players, including former Super Falcons captain Evelyn Nwabuoku for a two-week domestic camp in Abuja.

And the 59-year-old, who guided the team to a ninth African success in Ghana in 2018 further disclosed that he is hoping to discover new players to join the party to France 2019.

“First of all, it’s important to secure the daily training of the players that will go to Spain,” Dennerby told reporters.

“It is also an opportunity to see if any of the domestic players are at the same level, or even better than those already on the team.

“We also need to have some of them in the long provisional list which will be submitted to Fifa in April. All the players on the list have a chance to be in the final squad.

Dennerby’s ladies are expected to play two friendlies during a week-long campaign in Spain as they look to step up their preparations for the quadrennial championship this summer.

Nigeria will begin their seventh campaign against Norway on June 8 and South Korea four days later before they take on hosts France on June 17.
