Female Coach of Men’s Team Dominating in Sierra Leone Premier League

Sierra Leone will be bidding to reach their first ever international competition for the first time since 1996, but the Leone Stars aren’t the side making waves, a local team headed by the first Female Coach in the Country’s Premier League is.

On March 23rd the West African minnows will be in Asaba seeking their first win in the qualifying campaign of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

They face Neighbors Nigeria in the first-leg of a double header scheduled for March, with the Leone Stars picking up a single point after two round of matches.

Under the respected Ghanaian football Coach Sellas Tetteh, Sierra Leone drew 1-1 in their first game against Lesotho before falling 1-0 to Benin Republic.

However, Tettey and his men aren’t the center of the Buzz in Sierra Leonean football at this moment, Victoria Conteh and her East End Tigers are.

Conteh, who is perhaps the first female Coach of a Topflight Men’s professional football team in Africa is on the verge of rewriting the history books.

The East End Tigers climbed to the top of the league table following the 3-0 win over Mighty Blackpool on Wednesday.

Per @Africansoccerup, Victoria Conteh’s East End Tigers breezed through Mighty Blackpool with a 3-0 scoreline to go top of the Sierra Lionne Premier League yesterday.[sic]

Can she become the 1st female Coach to win a league title with a male team in Africa?

Sierra Leone’s Premier League is a 14-team competition and almost halfway through the season Conteh have won six games, drew two and lost two matches.

The team has scored 12 goals, the best goals scoring record so far this campaign and have conceded 6.

With just a point separating first and second, there are still 16 round of matches before the end of the current season.
