Fernando Torres Announces Retirement From Football

Former Liverpool, Chelsea and Spain striker Fernando Torres has announced his retirement from professional football.

Torres, who is currently playing for Japanese side Sagan Tosu took to his social media handle to make the emotional announcement.

He wrote: “I have something very important to announce. After 18 exciting years, the time has come to put an end to my football career.

 

“Next Sunday, the 23rd at 10:00AM, local time in Japan, I will have a press conference in Tokyo to explain all the details. See you there.”

Haven endured a torrid time with Chelsea, Torres moved to AC Milan on loan in 2014, before rejoining his boyhood club Athletico Madrid where he won the Europa league before leaving for Sagan Tosu in July 2018 .

Torres who has scored just four goals in 32 games for the J League side , enjoyed individual success with Liverpool , where scored 81 goals in 142 games without any trophy before his shock move to Chelsea on Deadline Day in January 2011.

The high points of the forward‘s was winning the 2010 World Cupand Euro 2008 and 2012 with Spain.

He also won the UEFA Champions league and Europa league with Chelsea in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
