Flying Eagles Protest: Players leaving in Batches, Several expected to Arrive Nigeria Today

Flying Eagles team secretary Aliyu Lawal has confirmed the departure of at least five foreign based players in the team and that a contingent is due to arrive Nigeria later on Wednesday night.

In a telephone chat on Brila FM’s News Breakfast show, Sports Machine, Lawal said Akor Adams, Tom Dele-Bashiru, Success Makanjuola, Jonathan Zaccala and Nathan Ofoborh have all left Poland.

‘The players have dropped the account numbers with me and have also issued the authorization for their monies to be paid.

‘As soon as the NFF make the payments, the players will receive the transfers,’ the Flying Eagles secretary said.

The drama over unpaid bonuses between the Flying Eagles and NFF resulted in a sit-in protest by the players, who refused to leave Poland after their elimination from the FIFA U20 World Cup on Monday.

Each player is owed at least $5000 for the duration of the competition, but efforts are being made to sort out the “miscommunication” which led to the outcry, media officer of the team Andrew Randa stated.

He also informed that the players already have their bags packed and after breakfast will depart aboard a Turkish Airline flight from Warsaw to Istanbul en route Abuja and Lagos.

Randa said several members of the team have tendered apologies for the roles played in the hoopla that ensued on Tuesday.
