Former NT Coach drags ‘lazy’ CHAN Eagles

It is only a matter of hours to the second leg of Nigeria’s African Nation Championship qualifiers against Ghana, days after the B Eagles lost 2-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium to the Black Galaxies.

Former youth MNT coach, John Obuh has told FL that the CHAN Eagles must aim to redeem themselves in the second-leg against their opponents in the crunch game in Abuja.

Ghana won the first meeting between the sides, 2-0 and only need a draw to secure passage to the tournament proper.

But in a chat with FL, Obuh who also coached several NPFL clubs has suggested that the Eagles need an inspired performance to turn the tie around completely.

‘The Eagles must strengthen their claim for a place in the Super Eagles with a dominant display against Ghana, as failure will be disastrous, especially with the head coach of the first team Jose Peseiro watching on,’ Obuh offered.

The Coach also questioned the team’s decision-making as he claimed that there was apprehension and self-doubt among the players in the first-leg.

He singled out Defenders Samson Gbadebo and Ebube Duru, whom he insists didn’t play with enough motivation.

John Obuh also laid into the forwards, ‘Chijioke Akuneto and Yusuf Abdul-Azeez, who were the top scorers in the league need to be doing better for the CHAN Eagles.

‘Representing the country is a privilege and a bad result will leave a dent in their names.’

‘Those players didn’t look quite confident at the Cape Coast, they played with fear and didn’t bring their A-game.’

Yet, the Coach also expressed confidence that now that the team have their backs against the wall and have gained some experience, he expects them to show more determination.
