The Super Eagles striker’s position is the most scrutinized and they get criticized the most according to former forward Julius Aghahowa.
Aghahowa told Cornerstonenewsng.comthat the criticisms that trailed Odion Ighalo’s goal drought at the World Cup in Russia was just one of the many episodes for Eagles front men.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk and Wigan attacker decried the situation as inimical to the Team and especially to the players involved.
‘Strikers are the most criticized in the Super Eagles and of course it is because the fans want to see goals and also victory for team.
‘Football is a team sport and truth is, the way it should is that everybody takes the fall when the team fails or get the praise if things go well.
‘But what you get often is that strikers are criticized soo much and Coaches are put under soo much pressure you find they make changes in that position and it affects the consistency you really want in the team,’ the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer said.
Aghahowa won 32 caps for Nigeria and scored 14 goals between 2000 and 2007.
