Gernot Rohr aims slight dig at “Almighty” Brazil

Nigeria’s Super Eagles put up a spirited fight against Brazil in the international friendly on Sunday, that ended 1-1.

Goals from Joe Aribo (35′) and Casemiro (48′) decided the tie as the sides could not be separated, in a game Brazil dominated.

Speaking after the match, Super Eagles Head Coach Gernot Rohr praised his team for stopping Brazil.

The German insists the 2019 Copa America champions were desperate for a win following a streak of poor results including the 1-1 draw against Senegal, days before.

“It’s not really about the point (draw), but also the fighting spirit from my team against one of the best teams in the world, who are technically the best players so we did very well.

“We scored first and wanted to win the match but they came back strong in the second half and they didn’t want to leave the Singapore without beating an African team, because they drew against Senegal.”

The Coach also aimed a slight dig at Tite’s team, arguing they had a better knowledge of the conditions in Singapore but couldn’t make it count.

“They had the advantage to know the pitch because they played here four days ago and they also had advantage to being used to the time difference now; we arrived just two days ago and it’s a big time difference with England, Europe or even Nigeria, so it was not easy for our young team.”
