Ghana to deploy a contingent of 160 FPU personnel to Somalia

Ghanian government will be deploying 160 police personnel to Somalia to join the African Mission in the war torn Country.
Ghana’s move to deploy to Amisom is in response to UNSC Resolution 2431(2018) which recommended increase in a number of police personnel to African Mission in Somalia ( Amisom ).

To demonstrate the country’s commitment and readiness, a four member recce team arrived on the mission ground on last week Monday to assess security and logistic arrangements in Baidoa which is the proposed base for the Ghanaian FPU contingent.

The team was led by the Director of International Relations of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Baba Saanid Adamu. Others are Chief Supt Reginald Osei, Deputy Commanding Officer of the Ghana FPU, DSP Rose Awah, logistics officer and DSP Dr Frank Duodu, a medical officer of the Police Hospital.

The team held consultative meetings with stakeholders in Baidoa and Mogadishu and later to Aljazeera 2 camp on familiazation visit.

DSRCC Simon Mulongo, who recieved the team at MHQ, welcomed the move by Ghana to deploy FPU to Somalia saying that it would boast Amisom’s efficiency as it consolidate and sustains law and order.

Acting PC Christine Alalo, in an earlier meeting at PHQ thanked the Government and the Police admistration of Ghana for acceptance and readiness to deploy FPU. She promised that the mission would do it best to make their stay comfortable so they could render the much needed operational support.

ACP Baba Saanid, expressed satisfaction, saying that ‘the visit to Baidoa exceeded their expectation and promised the country’s readiness to deploy its first contingent latest by June 2019.
