Iheanacho assists and scores on his first League appearance, as Leicester Close the Gap with Liverpool

Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench for his first premier league appearance of the season and he proved to be a major impact as he contributed to both of Leicester’s goals including the winner as the Foxes came from behind to beat Everton 2-1 at the King Power Stadium.

Iheanacho provided the assist for Jamie Vardy’s 13th league goal this season and Leicester City’s leveler (68′) after Richarlison had given Everton the lead (23′).

But the Young Nigerian wasn’t done and with the last minute of the allotted four of extra time, he collected a pass from Ricardo Pereira, turned his marker and curled the ball with his left foot past England’s number one goalkeeper.

It was a dramatic moment though as the Assistant Referee had his flag up for offside.

VAR was consulted and the goal given to see Leicester keep the gap with Liverpool to just 8 points.

It was also Iheanacho’s first league goal since September 2018.

Speaking after the game, the Nigerian admits his lack of game time was a concern but insists he would keep working hard.

“I have been waiting for this opportunity and I know one day it’s going to come and I have been working hard in training every day to make sure I keep up to the standard.

“So, I’m happy Today about getting a goal and assisting Jamie (Vardy), it was fantastic for the whole team and we enjoyed it.

“Of course you need to be strong mentally and as a football player its not easy not getting enough playing time.

“Jamie here is a top lad, a top striker in the world and am behind him and learning a lot from him as well, am happy and I know My time will come.”

Speaking on the VAR review for his goal after a similar incident in the EFL Cup, the Nigerian Forward said,”You can call me Mr. VAR if you want, but, I knew it was a goal.

“I was onside; it wasn’t offside and I knew the decision will come so I had to wait for it and we’re happy VAR decided on it.”
