Ilechukwu welcomes playing NPFL games behind the closed doors

Heartland of Owerri boss Fidelis Ilechukwu says his team will have no problem playing the remaining matches of the NPFL season behind the closed door.

The Nigeria professional football league was suspended indefinitely by the Nigeria Football Federation and the League Management Company after the completion of the round of 25 games in order to curb the spread of the virus.

With the number of infected people in the country rising, the Government decided to extend the lockdown in some parts of the country, which means any the hope of the potential return of the league has been dashed.

However, there have been calls from some that quarters that remaining 13 games should be played behind the closed door, something Ilechukwu believes is not a bad idea.

The former MFM FC of Lagos handler added he will have no problem if the authorities decided to end the season and declare leaders Plateau United the champions.

“If NFF and LMC decide that we should play remaining games behind the closed door, we will play, but if they want crown Plateau United the champions, it’s a welcome development.”

“I can say it Plateau United are the best team in Nigeria, they have been consistent both at home and on the road, although a team like Enyimba have outstanding games and with that, anything can happen.

” But as it stands now Plateau United are the best in the league,” he concluded.
