Kaita calls for continuous development of more young players into the Super Eagles

Former Nigeria international Sanni Kaita says the current Super Eagles squad is definitely a team for the future and admitted there is an improvement since Gernot Rohr took over the team.

After missing two consecutive African cups of Nations in 2015 and 2017, The Super Eagles have qualified for the last two tournaments, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Although the team failed to reach the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup, they bounced back and picked a Bronze medal at the 2019 African cup of Nations in Egypt and are currently topping their 2021 African cup of qualifying group with a maximum six points from two matches played so far.

While assessing the team’s recent performances, Kaita who made 22 appearances for Nigeria from 2005 to 2010 said the players have improved and its definitely robbing off on the team.

“There is an improvement, because when you look at the players we had at the world cup and look at ones we have now, they have improved individually, so when players improve individually, it helps the team and the next thing is to bring them together and achieve our goals.” he told www.brila.net.

Kaita also advised that the Nigeria Football Federation and the technical adviser Gernot Rohr not to rest on thief oars, as he called for continuous improvement of the team and development of more players from the youth teams.

” We have many talented players now, they are doing well with their clubs, but we still have to develop more of the youths. We must encourage the young one who are coming up.”He told www.brila.net.
