The two suspects arrested for the murder of the Personal Assistant (PA) to branch chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW),Kunle Poly Police have been moved to Abuja.
The suspects,Rafiu Olohunwa ,who was former Chairman of island branch of NURTW and the principal suspect, Adeola Williams(aka Ade Lawyer)are currently facing interrogation at the Inspector -General of Police IGP Intelligence Response Team(IRT).
On February 14,gun men stormed a meeting venue of NURTW ,in Oyingbo,and shot dead the PA to Kunle Poly.
Few weeks after the killing,Ade Lawyer was arrested by IRT operatives ,assisted by operatives from Fedeeal Special Anti Robbery Squad and during interrogation, Ade Lawyer confessed that he was sent by Olohunwa to kill Kunle Poly,but ,mistakenly shot his PA who died on the spot.
He also confessed that he had killed for many prominent Lagosians among those he claimed he was paid to kill were; Hamburger, a popular Union chairman in Oshodi,Babajide Dosumu(aka Modos)in Ebute Meta ,Salawu in Ajah,Ganiyu Asaro and four others at Baore area .He said he sprayed bullet in to car and killed five occupants.
Although more suspects were arrested in connection with the confession of Ade Lawyer,but,some of them were released ,except few including Olohunwa.
A dependable police source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said :”We released some of the powerful people Ade Lawyer mentioned because when we brought them face to face with him,he made u-turn ,claiming that he mentioned their names,so that they would save him.Well,those he mentioned and we invited for questioning agreed they had contact with Ade Lawyer, but,not to the extent of hiring him to kill perceived enemies.Well, we have to let some of them go and ask them to be reporting at the station weekly till further notice.Few of them who were strongly indicted are still with us.
” We are baffled at the manner Ade Lawyer is making u-turn,but ,all the people indicted are still being investigated. We won’t relent because, Ade Lawyer is a well know assassin,who was feared in the underworld. He bought the AK47 riffle he was using by himself, not that someone bought it for him”.
Police public relational officer, Mr Chike Oti ,said more persons were actually arrested following the confession of Ade Lawyer: ” What you have to know is that the case is still under investigation, so,it is not that investigation is concluded.We are arresting and interrogating suspects.until the investigating is concluded, no body has been exonerated in this matter.investigation is on going’.
The State Commissioner of police ,Imahimi Edgal ,last week paraded Olohunwa and Ade Lawyer at Command Headquarters ,Ikeja.He said when the crime was committed, he promised Lagosians that the police would fish out the killers of Kunle Poly’s PA.
” We have arrested the suspects.Ade Lawyer confessed that he fired the shot that killed the victim,but,regretted that he mis fired as he was sent to kill Kunle Poly.He mentioned Chief Olohunwa, former union Chairman as the man who sent him.We also ,arrested Olohunwa .We will ensure that justice will be done.We are investigating .We want to assure that all the persons mentioned by the principal suspect in connection with the killing will be invited “.
