The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa has set up an investigative panel to unravel the fact surrounding the alleged murder of an upcoming musician, 27 year-old Ilerioluwa Oladimeji (aka Mohbad), which occurred on September 12, 2023 .

However, a police source said Mr. Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, may be the first to be invited by the committee.

The police officer said Naira Marley may be invited following the strong the deceased late singer’s mother allegation that Mohbad did not die a natural death.

While expressing deep grief in a viral video, the woman said Mohbad lived in fear ever since he met the owner of Marlian Records label, Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley.

The investigative team is headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Saheed Kasim, who would be assisted by the officer in charge of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, CSP Chris Oyisi and 11 others.

Also included in the committee are three other officers from the police legal team headed by SP Cardoso Yetunde, and another team from the Forensic Department headed by CSP A Akpama.

The CP has given the committee two weeks to conclude the interim report on the case. He said: “In the overriding interest of the public, the police have set up a special investigative team to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim and to identify witnesses and culprits.

“The committee is to carry out this discreet investigation, which covers the following areas: exhumation, autopsy, texicology/histology, scene visit, hospital’s medical report and record of suspects’ and witnesses’ statements.”

Present at the inauguration of the committee included the father of the late singer, Mr. Joseph Aloba, his grandmother, Mrs. Felicia Adedara, Mrs. Kolawole Bosede and other family members.

The cause of death of Mohbad, a promising young musician, has been a subject of controversy since the tragic incident. Speaking during an Instagram live session on Thursday night, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police would probe to know the cause of Mohbad’s death. A couple of names had allegedly been mentioned relating to the death of the Ikorodu-born musician.
