Lampard Backs Zouma After Suffering Racial Abuse On Twitter

Chelsea young defender Kurt Zouma is the latest footballer to suffer racial abuse on social media following his role in the Club’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday.

The 24-year-old, was subjected to the abuse on Twitter after diverting Callum Robinson’s cross into Chelsea net in the 89th-minute equaliser for the away side.

Zouma is not the only Chelsea player who has suffered racial attack this season, striker Tammy Abraham , was also a victim after his missing a penalty In Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup defeat to Liverpool, with Manchester United’s Paul Pogba not left out of the abuse too few weeks back.

Speaking after the game with Sheffield United, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard said social media companies aren’t doing enough to stop these abuse and revealed the Club will plan a meeting with social media companies to help put a stop to it.

“I am probably going over the ground I did with Tammy before.”

“Firstly it is a person that does it, wherever they are hiding from, and secondly we have to look at social media and the platforms and give them some accountability to actually have people register who can be chased down for it.”

“I think it is simple, until we get to that, and no matter how horrible that conversation is, we get tired talking about it.”

“Until there is some culpability, anyone can say anything to anyone. It’s not just racism, it could be calling them names, homophobia, sexism, it could be anything.

“If we allow it, then unfortunately in modern society it is out there and it has to be dealt with.”

“I think we have plans to do that,” Lampard added.

“Everyone knows with how I speak and the way the club act consistently where we want to go with it. Any player, we are clear about that.”
