Lille’s player of the year award was not my target – Osimhen

Lille forward Victor Osimhen says he’s disappointed that he could not help his team qualify for the UEFA Champions league next season.

Osimhen scored 13 league goals for Lille last campaign, but his efforts wasn’t enough to help the team book their place in the European elites football competition next season.

However, Osimhen was recognised for his incredible contributions for club, he was named club’s player of the year and also included in the French league team of the season.

The 21-year-old said winning the player of the year and also named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season were not his target.

“Winning the Lille player of the season was not my target,” Osimhen told BBC Sport Africa.

“My target was to help the team finish in the Champions League spot. But I want to thank my team-mates and those who voted for me.”

Osimhen, added that he’s satisfied with his individual performance in just concluded season.

“I’m really happy – it’s a great feeling – I’m here and proving it,” said the former Wolfsburg an striker.

“The league is not as easy as some people think. It’s very competitive and you have to play among the best.” He said.
