Lobi Stars bow out of CAFCL despite home win over Asec Mimosas

Nigerian side Lobi Stars failed to advance to knock out stage of the 2019 CAF Champions League, despite a 2-0 home win over ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu on Saturday.

The Pride of Benue finished third in the Group A with seven points from six games, but with a better goal difference than Saturday’s opponents Asec Mimosas who ended their campaign bottom of the Group with seven points too.

Star Sikiru Alimi scored both goals for the Nigerians in the first half, the second half witnessed no goal as both sides bowed out.

However, it was a good tournament former Sunshine Stars striker Alimi who finished the competition as Lobi Stars top scorer with five goals.

Lobi Stars progress in the CAF elites Club competition was haltedby the home defeat to Wydad Casablanca and a narrow defeat to Asec Mimosas in Abidjan back in match day two.

Following the elimination from the Champions League, Lobi Stars will now turn their attentions to Nigeria Professional Football League, they are sixth on the log of Group A with games in hand.

Meanwhile , In other Group A game, Wydad Casablanca recorded a1-0 win against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, although both teams qualified for the next phase.
