Lobi Stars held Wydad Casablanca to a stalemate in Morocco

Nigeria Champions Lobi Stars forced Wydad Casablanca to a goalless draw in the CAF Champions League Group A encounter played in Rabat, Morocco on Tuesday.

The Solomon Ogbeide’s was boosted with the return of key players like Timileyin Kadri and Sikiru Alimi in the attack as the team settled for a valuable away point after losing the reverse fixture 1-0 in Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu.

The home side dominated the match from the start, with their influential captain Brahim Nakach pulling the strings in midfield but lack the passes to split the well disciplined Lobi Stars defense.

Lobi goalkeeper Olufemi Kayode who saved penalty in the previous fixture was also instrumental in the game as he made two quick successive saves to deny Wydad Al- Ouma in the 14th minute as the hosts searched for an opening goal.

The two time Champions League winners was all over the pitch searching for the vital goal but the likes of Mohammed Ounajem and Ismail El Haddad were guilty of wasting the opportunity that comes their way.

Lobi didn’t offer much in the attack but they were disciplined at the back all through the game thanks to Monsuru Bashiru who worked hard along side Ebube Duru, Solomon Kwambe and John Lazarus to protect the goalkeeper.

However, neither side could carve out a meaningful chance in the latter stages of the half and were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

In other Group A game , Mamelodi Sundown of South Africa held Asec Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire to goalless draw in Abidjan.

Wydad Casablanca are second in the group with seven points, while Lobi Stars are fourth with four points.
