Man clubs wife to death over food in Ebonyi

A man at Uburu Amachi village in Amachi autonomous community of Abakaliki Local Government Area ( LGA ) of Ebonyi State, Nwopho, has allegedly beaten his wife, Mrs. Nnenna Agbafor Nwopho to death over her failure to serve him dinner.


It was gathered that trouble started when the suspect returned from a drinking spree and requested for his supper. But the mother of two, who neighbours said was not happy with his drinking habit and inability to fend for the family, angrily ignored him. The husband engaged her in a fight and allegedly hit her with a heavy stick which inflicted severe injury on her body.

it was also gathered that residents immediately gathered at the man’s compound and forced him to rush his dying wife to the Alex-Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where she was confirmed dead. The village head, Mr Ernest Ogbaga, told Daily Sun that before the incident, he had on several occasions mediated on matters that usually erupted between the couple majorly caused by the man’s drunkenness.


A close relation of the deceased, Mr. Bernard Chukwu, from Igboeze Onicha community in Onicha LGA of the state decried the reckless manner his niece was allegedly beaten to death by a man who had not performed any marriage rites, let alone pay bride price. The suspect is in police custody at “C” Division, Ekumenyi Police Station while the woman’s body had been deposited at the mortuary.
