MATCH REPORT – How Rangers held Remo Stars to a goalless draw in Sagamu

Remo Stars Football Club (RSFC) have been held to a goalless draw by Rangers International in Wednesday’s rescheduled match day eleven (11) fixture at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu.

The Sky Blue Stars failed to convert their chances mounting sustained pressure on the Rangers goal at points during the contest, and Gbenga Ogunbote’s side were fully deserving of their point away from home.

However, the Flying Antelopes moved to the first three on the log, while Remo Stars maintained their position on the bottom two of the league table.

Remo Stars dominated the opening stages of the match but it took until 16th minute for the Sky Blue Stars to threaten, although Muoghara Dede’s header from a long ball was never going to beat goalkeeper Nana Bonsu.

The Sky Blue Stars came closer with beautiful display and nice exchange of passes from the boys, Solomon John sent in a cross and Edoka Owochio’s attempt went over the bar.

Rangers International went back up the other end and a chance was created for Bright Silas from Ifeanyi George’s free kick, he tapped in but he was caught in an offside position.

Two immediate reactions from the host as they continued mount pressure on the visitors, Shokunbi Dare, Muoghara Dede and Ndah Olisa connected well to set up Mbaoma, he immediately sent the pass to Akemini but his attempt went wide.

Just immediately after that attempt, Muoghara Dede sent a good pass towards Ogbobe Clement, he located Chidume Victor who sent directly to Victor Mbaoma, he set up Akemini Kingsley but his attempt was blocked by Tope Olusesi.

The Sky Blue Stars continued to put pressure on the visitors, Ndah Olisa took a long pass inside the visitors box but Tope Olusesi denied Shokunbi Dare from giving them the lead.

In the closing minutes of the game, Awoyemi Abiodun sighted Victor Mbaoma with a short free kick, he took the ball with his chest to set up Michael Bolaji but he wasn’t close to convert for the host.

Another late minute chance fell on Ogwuche Mathias inside the visitors box, he tried to make it count for the Sky Blue Stars but he ballooned the ball over the bar and the visiting supporters were left to celebrate what could turn out to be an important point come the end of the season.
