Messi, Ronaldo, Drogba… Yobo names Toughest Opponents He Faced

Joseph Yobo enjoyed a nearly two decade-long career span playing in some of Europe’s most exciting leagues including Belgium, France, England and Turkey.

Yobo was one of the best in the business in his prime, his athleticism as well as man marking abilities ensured a smooth transition from playing as a full back to the anchor position as CB.

He also had an illustrious run out with the Nigeria senior national team, the Super Eagles, where he became a centurion.

An Afcon title in 2013 plus three World Cup (2002, 2010 and 2014) appearances are among the fierce battles he had marched out for in national colors.

Some of the fiercest was also in the English Premier League and the former CB, who was recently appointed assistant coach of the Eagles, named the toughest opponents he had gone up against.

As published by Soccer Laduma on Tuesday, Yobo named Argentine Super star Lionel Messi as his toughest opponent.

He also named Cristiano Ronaldo, from his days at Manchester United as well as Ireland and Tottenham icon Robbie Keane.

The 40 year-old did leave a spot for one of Africa’s greatest names, in his collection of most feared adversaries.

Didier Drogba and Yobo had a history coming through from France to England, Turkey and even more on the continent.
