Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh has stated emphatically that modern-day football techniques can only be better executed by younger coaches both at the club and national team level.
Oliseh, 45, told brila.net that football has gone really scientific and the age factor has a very big role to play in the application of the evolving tactics football throws up.
“Football has really changed and the truth is the modern-day game needs uncles as coaches and not daddies. You need to see the calibre of coaches making their mark now on in the world of football.
Take a look at Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Antonio Conte, those are uncles and they can practically explain tactics to their players.
This is what football is these days and it has little or no room for older coaches who find it difficult to put into practice, what they want the players to do”, Oliseh said.
Oliseh then explained further citing the 2019 African Cup of Nations as an example where 43-year-old Algerian coach, Djamel Belmadi led his team to win the trophy with Senegalese tactician, Aliou Cissé also 43 years of age finishing second.
While Eagles’ gaffer, Gernot Rohr, 66, guided the Super Eagles to a third position having beaten the Tunisian team coached by 67-year-old Alain Giresse.
“You can even see from the 2019 AFCON that football is fast changing.
Sunday Ogochukwu Oliseh had 54 international caps for the Nigerian senior national team and was appointed coach of the Super Eagles in 2016 where he recorded an impressive statistic of 14 Games (Only 2 losses) 19 Goals scored, 6 conceded.
