Nasarawa Amazons edge Rivers United in Penalty shootout to reach Super 4 final

A second half comeback and then a dramatic penalty shoot out crowned by the heroics of Nasarawa Amazons goalkeeper Uchenna Chukwu saw NPFL super 4 defending champions Nasarawa Amazons book their place in the final of this year’s competition at the expense of archrival Rivers Angels.

After regulation time, the sides were tied 1-1, with goals scored either half by Rivers Angels then Nasarawa Amazons.

The game then went into shootouts where Uchenna produced one moment of brilliance with a fine save to swing the momentum fully in favor of her side before Ibrahim Mariam took and converted the decisive kick.

An excited Christopher Danjuma described the win over Rivers as a statement, with both clubs locked in an NWPL rivalry that’s seen more wins for the latter in the head to head.

Onwards to the final and the defending champions will face a silverware starved Bayelsa Queens, who are hoping to end a 12year trophyless run in the division. The finals hold on Sunday at the Agege Stadium on Sunday with kick off set for 4pm.
