Nigeria Once Again Makes Mark On Global Stage, Ranks Third Fastest Country In The World

Nigeria has been ranked the third fastest country in the world boasting of 12 athletes that have run sub-10s in the men’s one hundred meters (100m).

According to information on the published Making Of Champions Facebook page, the country ranks third in the world just below the United States of America and Jamaica, which have 65 and 23 runners respectively that have done sub-10s in the men’s 100m category.

The list of the Nigerian runners contains big names in the track and field sports including 2004 Athen Olympics Bronze medalist, Deji Aliyu, 2007 All-Africa Game Gold medalist, Olusoji Fasuba, two-time African Championships gold medalist Seun Ogunkoya and 1999 All-Africa Games Gold medalist, Francis Obikwelu, now representing Portugal.

Also on the list is Tokyo 2020 Olympics Men’s 100m finalist, Enock Adegoke, Uche Emedolu, Davidson Ezinwa, Raymond Ekevwo, Divine Oduduru, Olapade Adeniken, Daniel Effiong, and reigning national champions, Favour Ashe.

Nigeria athletes will have a chance to cement their names on the global stage once again when the 2022 World Athletics Championships begin on Friday, 15 July 2022. More than twenty athletes have been selected to represent the country in various events at the tournament.
