Nigeria should be winning the All Africa games and not just participating – Elegbeleye

Former Director General National Sports commission Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye has stated that Nigeria should be a major contender for the overall winner of the All Africa games and not just attending the competition trying to set category standard on where to finish.

Elegbeleye speaking in a chat with Cornerstonenewsng.comsaid not been specialist in multiple medal-winning games like swimming, shooting and archery set Nigeria at a disadvantage in the bid to be a very strong contender.
He also added that the large contingent of athletes that will be attending the games should have Federations give considerations to younger talent so as to have developmental approach in view as well as much as we want to win.
“When you talk of the All Africa games we shouldn’t be talking of attending the games but we should be talking of going to win and giving a good account of ourselves at the games and let people know that Nigeria is the king of Africa in Sports.
But unfortunately, there are some sports that gives a lot of medals that we are not good at like Swimming, shooting, and archery.”
“Thinking of the large contingent of athletes, I don’t see anything bad in having a large contingent but they must be youngsters and not old athletes so that even when we don’t win, we would have given exposure to these athletes.”
