Nigeria won’t make up number at the World Athletics Championship – Adeleye

Technical director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria Sunday Adeleye has stated that Nigeria won’t be out to make up the number ahead of this month’s commencement date for the 2019 World Athletics Championship.

Adeleye speaking in a chat with brila.net says Nigeria with the current quality of athletes should be able to make the most of their outing in Doha, Qatar to be competing for medals.
He added that they have had talks with the athletes and also communicates the desire to make the most of their current form to do well at the championship.
“We’ve had talks and we have  talked alto ourselves about what we want to achieve, we are not going to Doha to make numbers there, because it will be ludicrous for us to have this calibre of athletes we have right now and not been able to go to the world athletics championship to compete for medals.
It has never happen in Nigeria to have about three athletes doing sub 9 secs and then we have over five athletes running below 10.10secs which is the world athletics championship qualification standard for 100m.”
