Veteran Table Tennis star Segun Toriola, won the gold medal for Akwa Ibom State in the men’s single table tennis event at the 19th National Sports Festival in Abuja on Wednesday.
Toriola, who almost got disqualified frim the games beats Ganiyu Asmiyu from Bayelsa State 4-1 to clinch the gold for his adopted state.
Asmiyu won the first set 11-9, But Segun, a seven time Olympian fought to claim other three sets11- 7 , 11-9, 11-7 and 11-9.
The tennis legend who lost in the mixed doubles along with Funke Oshonaike Said experience helped him to overcome a youthful Asmiyu.
”It was tough but my experience mattered, particularly after the first set. Nigeria is blessed with talented players,” Toriola said.“
