Okon sees a bright future for Athletics in Nigeria

National Athletics coach Gabriel Okon has stated that he sees a bright future for Athletics in Nigeria as the National Youth games ended in Ilorin yesterday with youngsters showcasing their talents.

Okon speaking on what the games have produced so far in terms of unearthing athletes for the future said all that needs to be done is to simply put a radar on the athletes that emerge from the games and monitor accordingly so as to ensure they continue to improve.
“We have a bright future for sprint and some vertical jumps and horizontal jumps but we just need to put them together and make sure we put a radar on them and see how they are doing and in that case we are able to monitor them. So I think in the next three to four years, those athletes would have improved significantly and they will be ready to do the national proud like their predecessors.”
