Police arrest 73-year -Old woman for beating husband to death.

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 73-years-old woman for allegedly beating her husband, 83, to death in Umuahia, the state capital.  
The Suspect,  Mrs. Uwaga has been facing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Umuahia, for allegedly strangling  Alhaji Isa Uwaga to death.


Abia State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonnaya, confirmed the arrest of the woman,  saying that one of Uwaga’s children, Ibeabuchi, reported the matter to the police on July 2.

Ogbonnaya said that the deceased had been deposited at the morgue for possible autopsy in order to ascertain what actually killed him. It was also gathered that the couple had a disagreement, which degenerated into fisticuffs at their residence at Ohobo-Afara Umuahia.


A resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity said :

“During the fight, the man allegedly grabbed a machete to scare off his wife, but the woman reportedly overpowered him.The machete fell off his hand and the woman, who is huge, pinned him down by the neck and strangled him to death”.


A police source revealed that the relations of the deceased wanted to bury him shortly after his death, according to Islamic rite, before Ibeabuchi alerted the police who arrested the suspect who had gone into hiding. The police officer said that  Ibeabuchi told how his parents were quarreling as at the time he was leaving the house, but met the lifeless body of his father when he returned home”.
