The Lagos State Police Command Special Squad has arrested three suspected armed robbers who specialized in car snatching.
They met their waterloo after snatching a Lexus car at gunpoint in the Ikorodu area of Lagos on July 11 two weeks after their operation.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi:” The suspected armed robbers, who went for the said operation with their Toyota Camry car; after the robbery operation, had an encounter with the men of Police Mobile Force Squadron 63 Ikorodu and were forced to abandon the two cars and fled.
“The case was transferred to the Special Squad, Ikeja, for further investigation and arrest of the armed robbers. The men of the Special Squad painstakingly went after the armed robbers and were able to arrest Omoyemi Jimoh, 30, in Ikorodu on July 23, while the other two members of the gang, Ademola Michael, 31, and Olawale Adewale, 29, were arrested on July,27, at different locations in Ikorodu.
“Items recovered from them include one locally-made pistol, one expended cartridge assorted charms other dangerous weapons, one Toyota Camry car with registration number, KRD 417 GL, and the snatched Lexus Car.
“In another development, the Operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), on routine patrol and anti traffic robbery surveillance, Thursday, July 29, along the ever-busy Obafemi Awolowo way, Ikeja, arrested two members of a notorious syndicate which specialize in mobile phone theft.
“The two suspects, Abiodun Idowu,40, an indigene of Sagamu-Remo in Ogun State, resident at number 3, Segilola street, Agege, and Adeleke Adekunle, 27, an indigene of Ila-Orangun in Osun state, who resides at number 7, Araromi Street, Kola, Alagbado, Lagos, were arrested after dispossessing one Olakunle John, an NYSC Corp member, of his phone.
“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to have been in the criminal act of phone theft for a while. Further credible intelligence is being channeled towards the arrest of their fleeing accomplices. One galaxy A20 model phone and two sim cards belonging to the victim were recovered from them.
“Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, has commended the Commander RRS, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi and his operatives for the feat recorded and ordered that the suspects be moved to the Special Squad, Ikeja, for discreet investigation. The Commissioner of Police also commended the men of the Special Squad, for the arrest of the suspected armed robbers in Ikorodu and recovery of their weapons.
“The Police boss, therefore, assured the good people of Lagos State of adequate security of lives and property and more secured public space in the State”.
