Police killing in Lagos club : Five officers to face orderly room trial, DPO , others queried

Five Policemen have been arrested for allegedly killing a man in Crest Inn Club in Lagos .
Their arrest was ordered by the State Commissioner of Police CP Hakeem Odumosu ,who have also commenced internal disciplinary action on the policemen .

The CP has also queried the Divisional Police Officer ( DPO) and two other senior officers for lack of proper supervisions.
The police team was alleged to have stormed the club house on a distress calls from a lady who alleged that she was being harassed by some hoodlums.
It was gathered that the young men resisted arrest and the police men opened fire on the young men; killing one person while many others were injured .

According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana , the CP has assured families and friends of the victims that Justice would prevail and that police impunity would not be tolerated under his watch.

He said :” CP Hakeem Odumosu , has ordered the arrest and detention of police officers involved in the shooting incident that occurred at Crest Inn Club, 28/30 Balogun Street, Oshodi area of the State. The Police Officers involved are : Inspector Orubu Olusola, Inspector Apalowo Ola, Inspector Kasai Sule, Sergeant Momoh Ogwuche and Sergeant Adoga Collins attached to Akinpelu division. They are under the supervision of DSP Oloko Wale, who is the divisional Crime Officer and ASP Adamu Babajo, the divisional Operations Officer.


“The Incident happened on November 29,at about 8.30pm which led to the death of Maliki Mohammed ‘ 27 . Two other persons sustained injuries. In their statements, the team said they were at the club in response to a complaint made by Makinde Omowunmi Abibat of 9 Olaore Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi at Akinpelu Police Station that she was assaulted in the Club. That while trying to effect an arrest, they were attacked by some hoodlums which necessitated the use of firearms.


” This however, fell short of the provision of Force Order 237 which defined the circumstances in which a police officer will be justified to use firearms and the use of Force. The Police Officers involved are already facing internal disciplinary proceedings known as Orderly Room Trial at the Provost Department of the Command. If found guilty, they will be handed over to conventional Court for prosecution.


“Members of the Public will be updated on the outcome of the trial. . The divisional police officer ,DCO and the DOO were issued official queries for lack of supervision.
” Eleven suspects were however, arrested in connection with the attacked on the police team. The CP has ordered a thorough investigation into the case. He sympathised with the families of the deceased person and the injured persons. He called on the good people of Lagos State to remain calm as justice will not only be done but will be seen to be done”, Elkana concluded .
