Delta State Police Command has arrested an alleged member of a notorious syndicate that specialised in high profile armed robbery operations, including killing of policemen and carting away their rifles within Warri ,and its environs. The 32-year-old suspect, Mishan, popularly known as ‘Cele’, is alleged to be the brain behind series of violent robbery cases in Warri, and Effurun, since 2010 .
Items recovered in an operation led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ekpan Division, Asanaenyi Ibok, are: two AK 47 rifles with five rounds of magazines and one 140 rounds of live ammunition. He allegedly led series of armed robbery operations including trailing of bank customers to dispossess them of their cash and other valuables. The gang is accused of killing policemen in parts of Effurun and Udu areas whose service rifles were taken away by the assailants.

It was gathered that Mishan’s operational methods changed in the last two years after he escaped arrest from police who had been on his trail for a while by relocating to Ozoro his hometown in Isoko North Local Government Area of the state from where moved to Alegbo area for operations. Efforts to get the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) SP Asanaenyi Ibok, to give details of the arrest was turned down, as he directed further inquiries to the Delta state Police Commissioner.
Delta state Police Commissioner, Mr Hafiz Inuwa, said that with this arrest the Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its crime-fighting efforts in the Warri and Effurun areas. Inuwa, explained that the police were on the trail of the gang leader, Usobotie,and other members of the gang currently at large.
