Three suspected members of a notorious armed robbery gang that has held the people of Taraba State to the jugular have met their Waterloo as they were shot dead Sunday morning by the Police.
The gang was caught in the act of robbery and the hoodlums opened fire on the police who engaged them in a gun duel. When the smoke settled, three suspected armed robbers were killed.
A police source who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was not supposed to speak to the press said :”Today, Sunday, at about 0930hrs, information was received that a gang of armed robbers was operating along Kwassa feeder road in Bali Local Government Area (LGA), a team of policemen was immediately dispatched to the scene. On approaching the scene, the team engaged the hoodlums and in the process gunned down one while two others sustained gunshot injuries and later died at on the way to the hospital.
Other members of the gang, however, escaped into the nearby bush. Items recovered from the hoodlums include one locally made pistol with one live cartridge, one Dane gun, a face mask, a knife, and some criminal charms. An intensive search is ongoing to apprehend others who escaped with gunshot injuries”.
It was gathered that the Commissioner of Police CP David Akinremi has ordered the case should be transferred to Federal Anti Robbery Squad ( FSARS) of the state command to take over the investigation of the matter.
