Policeman involved in robbery killed by vigilante in Ebonyi

Police nab 4 herders over abduction of 4 Rivers businessmen

 

A Policeman serving with the Ebonyi State Police Command ,who was allegedly involved in a robbery operation has been shot dead by a local vigilance group.
The policeman (nameswitheld) believed to be the leader of a 3-man robbery gang, had led his gang to attack Nkwo Jacky axis of Ezzamgbo, where they robbed a pastor and a businessman or the sum of N2miilion.
It was gathered that after robbing the community,the gang threatened to come back; fearing that they would come to attack him, the pastor with a Methodist Church in Abakiliki, reported the threat to the local vigilance group in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
It was further gathered that the gang had also planned another operation in the same area a week after.
A local source said,” following the threat,one of the victims informed the local security guards, who kept surveillance in the area until the fateful evening when the three-man gang with face masks came as promised, but luck ran against the officer as he was gunned down by the guards, while two others escaped.
” It was after the mask was removed from the slain suspected robber, that people around, identified him as a well known serving police officer with the Ebonyi State police Command.
“After they had attacked Mr Anigbo and stole his money, they threatened to visit the man again, but as God would have it, the police officer finally paid dearly in their second journey
Ebonyi State acting Police Public Relations Officer,Joshua Ukandu,told our correspondent on telephone that the command would soon comment on the matter.
